Welcome
to the Website of the Global Mission Department
Global
Mission is...
...an
effort to reach all people with the wonderful gospel of salvation
in Jesus Christ. It is a structured missionary program of the Seventh-day
Adventist Church that is supported financially by special offerings
and donors. The Global Mission Operating Manual on the download
site explains all details and shows how your church can benefit
from this program. It also provides full details on how to apply for
support.
However, not every
missionary activity falls under this definition. The Global Mission
Operating Manual will also show you the difference.
The Objective
is...
...to
establish a new congregation in an unentered area. Despite the worldwide
proclamation of the gospel there are still several countries and many
cities and regions in this world where there is very little or no
Seventh-day Adventist presence yet. The Global Mission program has
the objective to address these areas.
The "10/40
Window" is...
...a new term created to designate the area located geographically
between 10 and 40 degrees north of the Equator. Within this frame
live most people who have never heard the name of Jesus. It also coincides
with some of the neediest areas of our planet.
Global
Mission Pioneers are lay people who...
- volunteer at
least one year
- work within
their own culture
- understand
the culture
- speak the language
- blend with
local people
- cost far less
than overseas missionaries.
What are
the activities of the Global Mission pioneers?
This
is a wonderful question. There is a great variety of possible activities
depending on the circumstances, local culture and creativity of the
pioneer. Generally there is a succession and combination of activities
with the overall purpose to reach the people where they are, ministering
to their needs and pointing them to Jesus Christ, their Savior. Door
to door visitation with surveys and literature, welfare ministry,
health expos and lectures, literacy teaching to adults and language
classes to foreigners, individual and collective Bible studies, prayer
rooms, etc. are just a few examples of commonly used methods. Get
more inspiration on the picture gallery.
This work requires much prayer and God’s guidance to find the
best way. It is His work.
